Gold Tone BG-250 Bluegrass Special Banjo Wide (Five String, Vintage Brown) Review

Gold Tone BG-250 Bluegrass Special Banjo Wide (Five String, Vintage Brown) Feature

  • It is a vintage replica of the most famous banjo ever played in bluegrass music.
  • All its parts are accurate reproductions of the original
  • Bound rosewood fingerboard
The Bluegrass Special 250 Wide (BG-250FW) is a NEW for 2009 model that has all of the same great features found on the BG-250F model while offering a slightly wider fingerboard. The nut width is 1-5/16” (standard BG-250F is 1-3/16”). We have had many requests over the years from players with larger hands (and fingers) to make a wider neck width under the nut, and we are now happy to include the BG-250FW as a standard model to the Gold Tone line. The Bluegrass Special 250 w/ Flange (BG-250F) is the first professional 5 string banjo in our line. It is a vintage replica of the most famous banjo ever played in bluegrass music. All its parts are accurate reproductions of the original. In addition, we have added a maple neck to brighten the tone compared to the original mahogany necks and added a straightline tailpiece to provide extra downward pressure on the bridge creating even more volume. Features also include a bound rosewood fingerboard, a die cast one piece flange and 13” bound mahogany resonator, the new GT Master planetary tuners, a 3-ply Canadian maple rim, flat-top 20-hole bell brass tone ring, and a complete setup here at the Gold Tone Factory in Florida. For a no frills, straight ahead bluegrass banjo, the BG-250F can not be beat for quality and tone.
